What do you enjoy most about living and studying in Loughborough?
Selena: I love the fact that Loughborough is a small town with half of it being the university campus. It feels like a huge, Hollywood-style university with everything within walking distance. The historical architecture adds to the charm, making it cosy and unique. The social life here is vibrant, with traditional English pubs that I really enjoy.
What were your initial impressions of Loughborough, and how have they changed over time?
Selena: My first impression of Loughborough was very positive. I was happy to find it was a small town, which made it easy to get around. The flat terrain and the fact that everything is within a 30-minute walking distance are great. The social aspect, especially the traditional English pubs, made me feel at home quickly.
Can you share a memorable experience or story from your time here?
Selena: One memorable experience was my interaction with my visiting supervisor at Loughborough University. Before I even arrived, she helped me meet other PhD students and professors, which made it easier to settle in and feel part of the community. This support was invaluable and made my transition much smoother.
How easy was it for you to adapt to life in Loughborough when you first arrived?
Selena: Adapting to life in Loughborough was relatively easy for me. Being familiar with the UK culture and lifestyle helped a lot. The main concerns, like where to go grocery shopping and how to get around, were quickly resolved within the first week of my arrival.

How convenient do you find the transportation and accessibility to essential services in Loughborough?
Selena: The transportation in Loughborough is very convenient. The proximity to East Midlands Airport and the availability of 24/7 bus services make it easy to travel. The town has plenty of supermarkets and essential services, which are all easily accessible.
How do you think your experience in Loughborough is preparing you for your future?
Selena: My experience in Loughborough, particularly the freedom and support I have in my PhD program, is preparing me well for my future. The academic environment encourages independent research, which is crucial for my development as a sociologist.
